Itinerary

Day 1:  Multnomah Falls, Hood River & Mt. Hood

Lodging:  Timberline Lodge

We will travel up the historic Columbia River Highway with a stop at the 542 foot-tall, two-tiered Multnomah Falls. A
leisurely moderate stroll to the top of Oregon’s most popular trail is 2.2 miles one-way with 700 feet of elevation gain. For those just wanting to see the falls, it’s only a 5-minute walk to the footbridge at the lower cascade. Witness the thunderous cascades and enjoy the refreshing mist either way you go. Our journey will then continue east to Hood River Oregon for lunch. You’ll have time to explore the Hood River shopping district before we relish in the famed fruit loop where cherries, pears and grapes are in abundance. We will then continue into the Mt. Hood National Forest and ascend Mt. Hood (the highest mountain in Oregon at 11,249 feet) before making our way to the historic Timberline Lodge which was built as a WPA Project. Down feather beds, giant timber beams, and creative use of stone makes this historic Lodge a treasure of Oregon that offers panoramic views in all directions. Tour the lodge and then the evening is yours to explore the many amenities including wildflower walking trails, the Magic Mile Chair Lift, an outdoor pool and
sauna, and general relaxation in this one-of-a-kind retreat.

Day 2:  Smith Rock State Park & Crater Lake

Lodging: Crater Lake Lodge

Our scenic drive starts at the top of Mt. Hood and descends into the high desert of Bend Oregon.  The landscape slowly
transitions from lush the lush Evergreen trees of the Mt. Hood National Forest to the arid landscape of Central Oregon. The unique smell of the sage,Ponderosa Pine, and fresh water from the rivers and lakes makes this a truly unique visit.  We will visit Smith Rock State Park which is known as the home of rock climbing, but to us is a place of amazing natural beauty.  We will walk the high desert landscape and take in all of the features of the park.  We will continue onto Crater Lake where we will spend afternoon relaxing in the majesty of the deepest lake in America.  The evening is yours to relax on the deck or explore the trail system close to the lodge.

Day 3:  Crater Lake National Park, Rogue River and the Pacific Ocean

Lodging: Oceanfront Lodge

It's difficult to imagine finding a better place to have your morning coffee than from the lodge at Crater Lake.  The Lodge provides the perfect perch to look down on the 1,943 deep blue lake.  Options for your day include a hike and lake boat cruise, fishing, or general relaxation at our lodge which offers panoramic views and relaxing hiking options. For those wanting to hike down to the water, we will take a lake cruise to learn about the history, geology, and cultural significance of the lake while viewing the natural beauty of the caldera from the boat. The Volcano Boat Cruises depart from the north side of Crater Lake at Cleetwood Cove. Guests must make the 1.1-mile hike on Cleetwood Trail to access the lake and boat dock. This hike can be very strenuous as it drops approximately 700-feet and may take 30 to 45 minutes to descend the trail. These cruises offer a fantastic perspective of the lake and will travel approximately 45-minutes to Wizard Island where guests are dropped off for 3-hours to hike and explore. When the boat returns for the pickup, the cruise will take approximately 75-minutes to complete the counter-clockwise trip around the perimeter of Crater Lake. A Ranger from the National Park Service will be on board the boat and on Wizard Island to offer a cultural and natural history of Crater Lake. Other than the drop-off at Wizard Island, guests will remain on the boat for the entire tour making stops at some special points along the way to view the beauty and formations of Crater Lake, including Wizard Island and Phantom Ship. Upon returning to the boat dock, it is time for the 1.1-mile hike out. This hike can take an hour or more, and the 700-foot ascent in elevation is the equivalent of climbing more than 70-flights of stairs. No fishing license is required for those wanting to cast a line on the shoreline of Crater Lake. Kokanee Salmon and Rainbow Trout are both found in Crater Lake, and there is no limit to your day’s catch.

If hiking down to the boat and fishing are not your style, you have ample options to enjoy any of Crater Lake’s other 90 miles of hiking trails, ranging from easy to strenuous. In the afternoon we will board the Expedition Cruiser for the drive along the Rogue River and onto Crescent City.  We will eat in transit and break up the drive to the Pacific Ocean with unique stops that will give you another chance to get the perfect picture.  Crossing into northern California, our tour ventures into Redwood National & State Park, a World Heritage Site known for its old-growth, temperate rain forest climate. With over 40 miles of coastline in the park, we will absorb every lookout and walk among the world’s tallest trees. Redwood’s lush landscape is complete with ferns, tide pools, and countless opportunities to snap amazing pictures of the rich flora and fauna. We will arrive at the ocean in time for you to absorb the sunset and sound of crashing waves just outside your hotel room.

Day 4:  Redwoods National Park's Trees of Mystery and Prairie Creek State Park

We will start the day with a couple stops along the beautiful Pacific Ocean where the sand in your toes and breeze on your face will make for the perfect beach walk.  We start our immersion into the Redwood National Park with a visit to the Trees of Mystery for a perfect combination of trails, museum, education and art.  The leisure stroll through the Redwood giants are informative and more importantly, stunning.  We will make our way to the gondola for a ride to the top of the mountain where a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean awaits.  The Native American Museum offers a glimpse into the past and the present as well as beautiful hand-crafted native art.

Prairie Creek State Park

This state park is a hiker’s dream come true. It boasts over 75 miles of trails to explore through the various woods, canyons, beaches, and prairie lands. There are a plethora of trails carved out, some ideal for beginners who just want to take a little stroll through some scenic areas. You'll find other paths for the expert hikers. They even have trails accessible for those with disabilities.

You can do entire trails. Alternatively, you can do short segment loops of several of the more extended ridge and valley trails. This will provide the most variety of sights in a day. A few notable trails in the Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park are the Miner’s Ridge and James Irvine loop, the Big Tree Loop, and the Brown Creek Loop.

For those up for a longer, but leisure hike, it is 10 miles round trip to Fern Canyon.  Guests can spend the majority of the day on this hike and your guide is happy to take you.  For those that don't want to walk that far, there is plenty to see and appreciate close to the visitors center and the Expedition Cruiser.  For those that are hiking in, lunches will be provided to enjoy on your hike.  There is little elevation and has multiple scenic payoffs along the way.  We will return to the hotel for another beautiful evening on the shores of the Pacific Ocean.

Day 5:  Redwood National Park

Lodging:  Oceanfront Lodge

The early morning is yours to explore the beach before we head back into the lush Redwood Forest.
